Encouragement for Your Marriage
Faith-centred habits for couples: praying together, speaking kindly, forgiving well, resting on purpose and keeping God at the heart of home.
A strong marriage is rarely built in big moments. It grows in small, repeated acts of faithfulness. Here are the practices we return to again and again.
Six habits for a faith-filled marriage
1. Pray together, briefly
A two-minute prayer before sleep does more than an hour you never get round to. Start small. See how to begin praying as a couple.
2. Speak words that build up
Notice what your spouse does well and say it out loud. Correction lands better in a home full of thanks.
3. Forgive quickly, repair honestly
Don’t let the sun go down on your anger. Say sorry without excuses. Forgiveness is a gift, and rebuilding trust can take time.
4. Guard time together
Protect one evening a week, even if it’s a walk round the block. Put phones away and talk.
5. Serve each other
Look for the task your spouse dreads and quietly do it. Love shows up in dishes and school runs.
6. Rest on purpose
Keep a rhythm of rest and worship. A tired couple is a short-tempered couple.
When you see faith differently
Many couples are not in the same place spiritually. That’s common and it can be a season of growth. Read when spouses are at different places in faith.
Bringing children along
Children learn faith by watching how parents treat each other. Short, honest family devotions help too.
